Zadar – Where History Meets the Sea

Zadar is one of those rare cities that manages to be both ancient and vibrant, peaceful and full of life. Located on the Dalmatian coast, it’s a place where Roman ruins stand beside modern art installations, and where locals still gather on stone steps to watch the sun set into the sea.

Walking through Zadar’s old town feels like flipping through pages of a living history book. From the Roman Forum and the Church of St. Donatus to Venetian walls and medieval gates, every corner has a story. But Zadar isn’t stuck in the past. It’s home to unique modern attractions like the Sea Organ – an instrument played by the waves – and the Sun Salutation, a solar-powered light installation that comes alive at night.

The city has a relaxed, Mediterranean vibe. Cafés spill out onto sunny squares, fishermen sell their morning catch at the market, and the scent of grilled seafood floats through narrow alleys. Whether you're exploring museums, cycling along the waterfront, or just sipping coffee with a view of the islands, Zadar has a way of slowing you down – in the best possible way.

It’s also a perfect jumping-off point for island adventures. From Zadar, boats leave daily to places like Dugi Otok, Ugljan, and of course, the peaceful and authentic island of Iž.
